ZEISS CLARUS Imaging Competition
Terms and Conditions

The ZEISS CLARUS Imaging Competition, organized by ZEISS Taiwan, focuses on unique diagnostic retinal imaging cases to provide valuable insights for the diagnosis of retinal diseases. Participants are invited to submit their best images taken with the ZEISS CLARUS 500/700 ultra-widefield fundus cameras.


1. Eligibility

The competition is open to existing ZEISS CLARUS users. Eligibility is restricted to doctors who are involved in the clinic's regular office hours. There is no limit on the number of submissions per participant.


2. Registration Period

Submissions are accepted from September 1st to November 21st, 2025.


3. Submission Guidelines

  • Image Format: Accepted image formats include .tif (TIFF), .png (PNG), or .jpg (JPEG) with a minimum resolution of 300dpi.
     

  • Content: You can submit either a single photo or a montage. Image types can include Color, FAF, or FAG.
     

  • Original and Unpublished Work: Submissions must be original and unpublished.
     

  • Required Information: Each submission must include:
     

    • Title of the image
       

    • Image diagnosis
       

    • A brief case description (maximum of 200 words) outlining the disease diagnosis and scientific significance.
       

    • Full names of the doctor and technician involved.


4. Data Security and Privacy

The organizers are committed to processing participants' personal data in compliance with data privacy laws and regulations. By entering the competition, you consent to the processing, storage, and use of your personal data, including your name, contact details, and images. All data will be handled in accordance with ZEISS's privacy policy, available at ZEISS Data Protection.


5. Agreement and Permissions

By submitting an entry, you confirm and warrant:

  • You hold the copyright and any other intellectual property rights for each submitted image.
     

  • Only de-identified data (i.e., no identifiable patient information) is submitted.
     

  • You have obtained any necessary consents as required by data protection and privacy laws.
     

  • You agree to indemnify the organizers against any third-party claims arising from breaches of these warranties.
     

  • You grant the organizers a free, non-exclusive right to use, reproduce, enlarge, publish, or exhibit your images in any form and medium for the purpose of the competition. Post-competition usage will require explicit consent.


6. Judging and Selection Criteria

The competition will be judged by an independent panel, including Dr. Shih-Jen Chen and Dr. Chia-Jen Chang. The evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

  • Image clarity and quality (25%)
     

  • Field of view (25%)
     

  • Complete representation of the disease (25%)
     

  • Absence of artefacts (25%)
     

  • Add a title for bonus points
     

The top-scoring image in the first round will receive the Best Image Award. In the second round, the top 9 images will be selected based on the above criteria, and these images will be showcased at the TOS Congress. Participants at the congress will have the chance to vote for the Best Popularity Award.


7. Prizes

  • Best Image Award: The winner will receive an Apple iPad 11th Generation A16-128GB.
     

  • Best Popularity Award: The image with the highest votes at the congress will win an Apple HomePod 2.
     

The organisers reserve the right to replace or modify the prizes based on availability or other unforeseen circumstances.


8. Disqualification

Entries that violate any of the competition rules will be disqualified. This includes:

  • Non-original submissions
     

  • Images that have been edited with third-party software
     

  • Images with identifiable data or that lack consent from the data subject.


9. Force Majeure

If the competition cannot proceed as planned due to force majeure events, the organisers reserve the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the event. Any such decisions will be promptly communicated to participants.


10. Revisions

The organisers reserve the right to amend or modify these terms and conditions as necessary. Participants will be notified of any changes via the contact details provided during registration. Continued participation after any modifications indicates acceptance of the revised terms.


11. Applicable Law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan).


Important: Participants must carefully read and understand these terms and conditions before submitting their entries. Participation implies acceptance of these terms.
