Terms and Conditions for

ZEISS Imaging Competition  

Carl Zeiss Pte. Ltd. (“Organiser”) presents the ZEISS Imaging Competition which aims to spotlight unique diagnostic imaging cases that offer significant insights into the diagnosis of retinal pathologies. Participants are invited to submit their best images captured using the CLARUS 500/700 HD Ultra-Widefield Fundus camera and/or ZEISS OCT/OCTA.

 

1. Eligibility 

  • Entry is open to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, and Ophthalmic imagers & Nurses from Asia Pacific

  • There is no limit to the number of submissions per participant. 

 

2. Entry Period 

All entries must be received by 24 March 2024.

 

3. Submission Guidelines 

  • Your submission must be image files in .tif (TIFF), .png (PNG), or .jpg (JPEG) format of the highest quality, with a minimum resolution of 300dpi. 

  • Please select only 1 category for each submission:

    • Category 1: CLARUS Fundus Image​ (Color fundus, FAF and/or FA)

    • Category 2: Complete Clinical Case with ZEISS Multimodal Imaging (CLARUS - Color fundus, FAF and/or FA, with accompanying ZEISS OCT and OCTA scans) 

  • The image file(s) uploaded for each submission could be 1 shot or a montage (e.g. CLARUS – Widefield and Ultra-widefield Color fundus, FAF and/or FA, ZEISS OCT and/or OCTA)

  • Submissions must be original and unpublished. 

  • All submissions must include a Title (ideally a unique and inspirational title), Diagnosis of disease presented, a brief case description in English of the scientific significance in less than 200 words and image file(s).

 

4. Data Protection & Privacy 

The Organiser is committed to ensuring that participants' personal data is processed in line with data privacy principles and legal requirements. By participating in the competition: 

  • You agree that your personal data, including but not limited to name, contact details, and images submitted, may be processed, stored, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the competition. 

  • All data will be collected, processed, and held in accordance with the ZEISS Privacy Policy, which can be found on our official website. You are encouraged to familiarize yourself with our Data Privacy Notice to understand your rights and our responsibilities regarding data protection at https://www.zeiss.com/data-protection/en/home.html

 

5. Consent & Permission 

By submitting an entry, you confirm and warrant that:  

  • you own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each submitted image;  

  • only de-identified data which cannot be traced back to any individual patient is submitted to the Organiser; 

  • obtained any consents necessary according to any applicable data protection and privacy laws; and you agree to indemnify and hold the Organiser harmless from any claims by third parties based on or in connection with a breach of this warranty. 

You agree to grant the Organiser a free, non-exclusive right, with no restriction with regards to time or place, to use, reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit the images received in whatever form and in any medium of communication for the purpose of conducting this Competition. The Organiser acknowledges that any other use of images post-competition requires your explicit consent. 

 

6. Judging & Selection Criteria 

  • An independent judging panel comprising A/Prof Adrian Koh & Dr Thanapong Somkijrungroj will judge entries.

  • The Organiser reserves the right to substitute or change members of the judging panel without prior notice, due to the availability of the judges or the occurrence of unforeseen circumstances.

  • Judges are not allowed to submit entries.

  • Scoring for the qualified submissions shall be based on following criteria: Image Focus Quality, Absence of Disturbing Elements/Artefacts, Disease Interest, and Visual Impact. Additional points may be given by the Judges for any submission with a unique and inspirational title.

  • 20 Top images will be selected by the appointed judges based on the aforementioned scoring criteria. These images will be displayed at the HORIZON 2024 ZEISS APAC OPT Symposium, Imaging Exhibit (Bangkok, 27 Apr 2024).

  • 1 submission from each category with the highest overall score will be announced as the winners on 27 Apr 2024.

 

7. Prizes 

  • Category 1 Award: Apple Watch Series 9

  • Category 2 Award: Apple iPad Air

  • The Organiser reserves the right to substitute or change the prize with another of equal or greater value without prior notice, based on availability or other unforeseen circumstances. 

 

8. Disqualification 

  • The Organiser reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions. 

  • Any submission of non-original work including but not limited to images edited with third party image processing software or images with any sort of dispute shall be disqualified. 

  • Any submission of images with identifiable data and/or where consent of the data subject is not obtained shall be disqualified. 

 

9. Force Majeure 

In the event that the Competition cannot be executed as planned due to a force majeure event, the Organiser reserves the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Competition without prior notice. Participants will be informed of any such decisions as soon as possible. The Organiser will not be held responsible for any loss, damage, or injury resulting from such an event. 

10. Amendments 

The Organiser reserves the right to amend, revise, or modify these Terms and Conditions at any time to reflect changes in the competition structure, objectives, or for any other reason deemed necessary for the fair and orderly conduct of the competition. In the event of any amendments: 

  • Participants will be promptly notified of any such changes through the primary contact method provided upon entry, such as email. 

  • The updated Terms and Conditions will be made available on the official competition website or any other official communication medium used for the competition. 

  • If a participant does not agree to the amended terms, they have the right to withdraw from the competition by notifying the Organiser within a specified period, typically 7 days from the notification of amendment. 

  • Continuation of participation in the competition following any amendments signifies acceptance of the revised terms. 

 

11. Governing Law 

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Singapore.
